On the ground floor of the Torhaus, we show a small exhibition on the history of the Torhaus and the Wiederoda manor estate.

History
The historic Torhaus in its present form was, in all likelihood, built in 1720 by the von Bünau family, though its core is older. A sandstone coat of arms is set into each of the north and south sides; while the northern one is completely weathered, the southern one still shows the family crest of the Saxon noble family von Grunrade, who held the manor estate as a fief from the 16th century until it was sold to the related von Bünau family.
Before 1945, the inspector Huhn lived in the Torhaus with his family. After the Sieber family was expropriated in 1945, it was used as a village shop, post office and for housing. Since German reunification the listed monument had stood empty and, over 20 years of vacancy, fell into ruin.
The Future
The Kraft von Wedel family acquired this individually listed monument from an English real estate agent. With European funding ("Structural measures for the preservation and revitalization of rural cultural heritage"), it was possible to renovate the roof. The building – one of the last surviving gatehouses of a manor estate in Saxony – is to be renovated further, step by step, over the coming years.
